Seireitei is in the center of Soul Society.
Seireitei is a circular shiro with four main entrances, ten days walk apart,each guarded by a Gate Guardian. These gates are called the Black Ridge Gate (Kokuryōmon) (in the North), the Blue Stream Gate (Shōryūmon) (in the East), the Red Hollow Gate (Shuwaimon) (in the South) and the White Way Gate ( Hakutōmon) (in the West). The gates are so heavy that it takes the full might of one of the Guardians to lift one, siege machines were needed to open the gates. "Palace of Remorseful Sin") and has a long, zigzagging stairway carved into one side of the Hill. One end of the Hill is heavily undercut. It is at this point that the Sōkyoku and the bridge are located. The opposite end is covered by white forest.
Those permitted to live in the tranquility of the Seireitei are Shinigami and the few families of the nobility. Shinigami live in the Division barracks, while high-ranking officers commute from their own homes.The majority of the residents of Seireitei, nobility and Shinigami alike, do not interact with the citizens of Rukongai. However, residents of Rukongai are allowed to apply for the Shinō Academy, which is often the only escape from the poorest conditions of Rukongai.

One of the more unusual aspects of Soul Society is its technology level.
